Self Portrait as Rain

Difficult not to get the canvas wet!               

  The color I use is not blue.

  And I do not render myself into helpless,

 haphazard streaks        or accidental splattery. 

    If it makes one happy enough               

  to do so, by all means,

smear a smatter of blue bumbling from clouds and sky,         I 

  do not paint clouds.          Or sky. 

  If you were asked to paint a self-portrait

                                    would you paint your mother there too?
